On March 17, 2026, Dmitry Sharov, CEO of OCT, met with Wang Maochun, Vice President of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines, Medical Devices and Health Products (CCCMHPIE), and his delegation. The parties discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation between China and Russia in the pharmaceutical industry, with a particular focus on practical aspects of collaboration.
Vice President Wang Maochun welcomed Mr. Sharov and noted that cooperation between China and Russia in the pharmaceutical sector has shown steady growth in recent years. According to him, bilateral pharmaceutical trade is expected to reach USD 3.77 billion in 2025. Within this, the segment of Western medicines is projected to account for USD 1.68 billion, representing a 9.3% increase compared to the previous year.
He also highlighted that Chinese pharmaceutical companies such as Hualan Biotech and Microchip Biotech are actively developing partnerships with Russian counterparts, including Pharmasyntez Group and Nizhpharm, in areas such as drug development, biotechnology, and out-licensing of innovative products.
The Chamber expressed its readiness to strengthen cooperation with “OCT”, acting as a bridge between industry stakeholders and facilitating collaboration in drug development and clinical trials for Chinese companies interested in entering Russian-speaking markets.
In turn, Dmitry Sharov expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and noted that “OCT”, as one of the leading CROs in Russia and Eastern Europe, provides a full range of services — from clinical trial protocol development to drug registration. The company has extensive experience working with international pharmaceutical companies in Europe and the United States, and actively collaborates with biotechnology companies in Asia, including successful projects with Chinese partners.
According to Mr. Sharov, cooperation between China and Russia in drug development and clinical research holds significant potential. “OCT” considers the Chinese market a strategic priority and is interested in further strengthening its partnership with the Chamber. Key areas for future collaboration include information exchange, resource coordination, and joint project development.
